On May 20, 27 and June 5th, during three days, students from the Clean Workshop team of the high school division of the university’s Affiliated School for Special Needs Education participated in environmental beautification efforts at the Heiwamachi Campus.
This activity was carried out as part of the students’ hands-on learning program. This time, the task involved pruning trees along the road beside the elementary school playground. The trees along the outer perimeter road, if left unchecked, can become obstacles to vehicles and pedestrians. With a strong sense of purpose—to help ensure safe and smooth passage for local residents—the student work team carefully pruned and gathered branches. After their diligent efforts, staff from the affiliated school expressed their gratitude to the students for their hard work.
At the Affiliated School for Special Needs Education, students are engaged in hands-on learning activities such as environmental beautification across the university’s campuses and areas, as well as making cookies as commercial products. Through these experiences, they are learning why education is important and how it connects to contributing to society, all while working toward greater independence. By participating in such practical learning, they explore what they can and should do for society.
